Clear English for Lawyers Who Lead

Practical communication training for legal teams

Strong legal advice deserves a clear delivery.

Your lawyers know the law. But when a client challenges a recommendation, international counsel pushes back, or an unexpected question changes the conversation, communicating that expertise clearly in English takes more than language proficiency.

The Winning Brief offers tailored, two-hour workshops where legal teams practice the communication behaviors that matter in those moments. One agreed objective, realistic professional situations, and techniques participants can apply in their work.

Where communication gets harder

Your team knows the law. Does the message always land?

Legal teams can produce excellent analysis and still lose valuable clarity in the final explanation, the cross-border exchange, or the question no one expected. These are communication behaviors worth developing together.

Client updates

The facts are all there. The recommendation is not immediately clear. The reader has to work to find the answer.

Cross-border calls

A firm point sounds harsh, or a diplomatic one sounds uncertain. Tone changes how the position is received.

Legal presentations

The analysis is sound, but the audience leaves without a clear conclusion or next step.

Unexpected questions

A capable lawyer knows the answer but needs time to organize it precisely in English.

One practical workshop will not solve every communication challenge. It can give your team a shared way to handle one recurring situation better.

The two-hour format

One objective. Two hours. Practice that relates to real legal work.

Before the session, we agree on the communication behavior your team most needs to strengthen. Then we shape the workshop around it rather than trying to cover every possible topic.

Deliver client recommendations more directly
Handle difficult questions and interruptions
Use tone and diplomacy across borders
Make technical legal explanations easier to follow
1.

Define the challenge

Identify the specific situation and introduce a useful communication framework.

2.

See what changes

Compare professional examples and examine what makes one message more effective.

3.

Practice the response

Explore alternative approaches through guided exercises and discussion.

4.

Take it into practice

Identify techniques participants can apply in their next real conversation.

One possible workshop focus

When a client challenges the recommendation.

Imagine your lawyers need to give a clear recommendation during a cross-border call, then respond when the client questions it. A workshop could focus specifically on that exchange.

Your team's objective and the exercises are agreed before the session.

What the team might practice

  • Lead with the recommendation, then explain the reasoning.
  • Recognize the concern behind a challenging question.
  • Respond firmly and diplomatically without losing legal nuance.
  • Explain uncertainty precisely rather than avoiding the question.
Beyond the two hours

Participants work with an approach they can apply to the next client conversation, presentation, or difficult question. The aim is to strengthen one repeatable communication behavior, not cover every challenge at once.

Questions before you enquire

What decision-makers usually want to know.

You don't need a finished training brief to start a conversation. A description of the situation and team is enough.

Can we use examples from our own matters?

Where appropriate, we can discuss anonymized or adapted professional situations and agree any necessary confidentiality arrangements before reviewing materials.

Is training only for law firms?

No. The workshop can also be suitable for in-house counsel and legal teams in organizations that use English professionally.

Do all participants need the same English level?

Not necessarily. We will discuss the group's needs and determine whether a shared two-hour format is suitable for the intended objective.

How many people can attend?

The base workshop fee covers up to 8 participants. For 9 to 12 participants, add €200 per additional person. For 13 or more participants, we prepare a separate quote to fit the group and training objective. All fees exclude VAT.

What does the workshop fee include?

The base fee covers a live two-hour workshop for up to 8 participants, built around one agreed communication objective. The proposal confirms any tailored preparation and materials included in the scope. Additional participants (9–12) cost €200 each. Prices exclude VAT; in-person travel is charged separately.

What happens after we submit the inquiry?

We'll review your objectives and contact you to discuss scope, timing, and practical requirements. If the format fits, we'll prepare a proposal for your approval.
